Red Bird Salon
I remember when we made the decision to move out of state from Illinois to Tennessee the one thing I started looking for first -a new hair artist! For years hair has definitely ranked top (if the only one) in my self care priorities. An hour (maybe 3) once a month that I’m able to just get away, my blissful Narnia if you will.
As soon as I saw Red Bird Salon online, I instantly knew this would be my spot, call it a feeling or the significance of the red bird.
I let my hair grow for about a year, to be in a sense, a blank canvas. I was out running errands one day after we’d mostly settled in and decided on my way home to drive and find their location -nervous as hell to actually walk in. I have this habit of lying to myself a lot, which provides this unhealthy level of not feeling good enough -for most anything I can dream up (don’t worry, working on this). Walking into what I would call an upscale establishment I was sure to feel out of place., but walk in I did.
(Do it afraid)
And let me try to explain where that decision led me-
Opening the door to Red Bird Salon is nothing short of an entrance to an experience for all the senses. As you walk in, you are instantly overcome with a breath of fresh air (and no, not chemicals).
A breath of fresh air that is the esthetically pleasing environment, light clean refreshing scent you can almost barely smell (but you do), the beautifully designed placement of product, and minimal yet statement decor that is the reception area; there is where you are greeted with the warmth of a soft voice, bright smile and genuine joy of a person glad to make your acquaintance.
From there a doorway so eloquently placed mid-wall catches your eye and through there, is where a magical escape happens.
The overall design adding in the separation of reception, to an entrance into the salon is brilliant in a sense of sanctuary; eliminating that exposed feeling to all that is public during your getaway -where we sit vulnerably undone, processing under foil.
And that is just the beginning.......
Each stylist is perfectly paired for your specific desires, should you have them, by their experience and strengths.
For me, Hannah has been the perfect fit for my (now) pixie style from that blank canvas of longer hair all the way to it currently being it’s shortest yet. There is a great trust built with Hannah, and within that I have felt brave enough to keep trying new things.
From that first appointment each stylist starts by getting to know you, in a way different than most salons. They don’t just ask you what you would like out of your hair cut/style/color they genuinely get to know you and that translates into an even better result in one of your most fun accessories in life -your hair.
Though there are a handful of stylist working, the atmosphere remains overall pleasantly quiet. There is no negative energy floating about, conversation is always pleasant and even the stylists that don’t directly work with you all know you and great you by name. If Cheers hadn’t previously coined the phrase, I would still have referred to Red Bird Salon as a place where everyone knows your name.
If you are receiving color services you then get the added pleasure of sitting in the relaxation area, quaintly designed a well flowing continuation from the main salon floor. There is simplistic yet cozy seating to enjoy, with someone checking on you frequently to make sure you’re doing ok and to offer you a beverage while you wait.
Then when the time comes for the shampoo, rinse and repeat part of your visit, the shampoo bowl is prepped with a warm towel to rest your neck on as the chair is then also reclined putting your feet up for even further comfort.
Each stylist proceeds with the utmost care in the way they massage and take their time in this step of your overall visit, another tip of the scale on the relaxation they provide.
Spending any amount of time at Red Bird Salon is an investment in self, and they don’t take your decision to come here lightly.
After about 1.5 years of monthly appointments I can say that the care never diminishes, each visit continually surpasses expectations and always is a much needed treatment to rejuvenate and keep tackling life -and of course, with great hair!
Thank you Hannah and everyone at Red Bird Salon for giving me a place to feel at home even when I was fresh in a new town.
Take good care, travel safe
